How easily a study or two can change everything. In 1930 Vit D was a miracle cure for you name it. Zip up to 1950 and a study IN-CORRECTLY though vit D was causing high calcium levels in patients. Then in India circa 1980 we get another study saying the same thing and that was the end of vit D for a while.
It took till 1999 for things to start looking brighter for vit D and now it is the MOST sold vit in the world.
Why? Well it does just about everything. The body takes vit D and changes it to Calcitriol (the actual hormone) attaches to more than 2,700 sites on the human genome, and it turns on more than 1,000 genes.
I was watching a lecture from a Manitoba professor called “Dr. D” for his work on vit D. His quote was “if vitamin D was expensive and patentable we would all be on it by law.”
What do you do? In the summer get more sun, 15-20 min of sun 2-4 times a week, on as much of your body as the law will allow. From September to May take a supplement of vit D. There are two types tablets and liquid. I suggest the liquid, normally one drop is 1000IU and I take 10 to 20 drops once a week. You may need a different amount, come ask me about it.
Liquid vit D is a fat, you don’t normally need to take it every day. In the ‘old’ days we where supposed to store up enough vit D in our own fat to last us all winter but in massive numbers we just do not do that in Canada.
The cost of vit D is going up as the popularity pushes demand but at this moment in nutritional circles there is massive agreement it is very useful to your health. I still sell a months supply for around $15, compared to other things still a good deal.
Where does all this vit D come from? The oil from Sheep wool of course. Hopefully New Zealand keeps up with the herds.
